Filing Documents with the Court

A civil action shall be commenced by filing a complaint with the Clerk of Tribal Court.  The Court’s Rules of Civil Procedure govern the filing process.

General Information


Filing may be accomplished in person, by facsimile (952-233-4259), by email (, or by mailing to Clerk of Tribal Court, 2330 Sioux Trail N.W., Prior Lake, MN 55372 (telephone 952-233-4246). Filings are accepted between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on business days. Except as provided in Rule 4(d), any filing received after 4:30 p.m. shall be deemed filed on the following business day.


    • Annual attorney-licensing fee: $100
    • Filing fee: $200
    • Divorce filing fee: $100
    • Certified copy of a document: $5
    • Marriage license: $35

Court Holidays

The Tribal Court is closed on all holidays observed by the Community, including:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
  • President’s Day
  • Memorial Day
  • Fourth of July (or the nearest business day)
  • Labor Day
  • Native American Day (celebrated on the same day as the federal “Columbus Day” holiday)
  • Thanksgiving and the day after Thanksgiving
  • Christmas Eve (or the nearest business day)
  • Christmas Day (or the nearest business day)
